Grand Canyon wins first Division II Directors’ Cup (USA Today)
Grand Canyon (Ariz.) ended the eight-year run of Grand Valley State (Mich.) at the top of the final NCAA Division II standings to claim the school’s first Directors’ Cup, awarded by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics to recognize all-around achievement in sports.
The Antelopes earned points in the maximum seven men’s and seven women’s sports, highlighted by the national championship for the men’s indoor track squad and third-place finishes in wrestling and women’s golf. The men’s track crown, achieved in only the program’s second year of existence, was the school’s second national championship in Division II. The first was in men’s soccer in 1996.
