DI Winter Learfield Directors’ Cup Standings Updated
CLEVELAND – After adding men’s ice hockey, Stanford is in control of 1st place by almost 200 points. The Cardinal has accumulated 944.25 total points, with 464.75 of those points coming in the winter.
Ohio State continues its second place run, totaling 736.50 points to date. The Buckeyes have had just as an impressive winter as Stanford, tallying 464.50 points to add to their fall total.
Fellow Big Ten member, Michigan, still occupies the third spot with 690.75 total points. The Wolverines were able to narrow the gap on the rival Buckeyes by placing 5th in men’s ice hockey, the only sport added to the standings this week. With this finish, the Wolverines have accumulated 372.25 points in the winter alone.
North Carolina remains in 4th place with a total of 628 points. The Tar Heels are one of four ACC teams in the top-10 for this week’s standings. The Tar Heels will look to match, if not pass their fall total of 342 points after next week’s standings are released.
Concluding the top-five and jumping four spots since last week is Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish placed 5th in men’s ice hockey and now have 594 total points.
The Big Ten and the ACC lead all Division I conferences in the top-10 with four institutions each – Ohio State (2nd), Michigan (3rd), Minnesota (8th) and Penn State (10th) from the Big Ten, and North Carolina (4th), Notre Dame (5th), Syracuse (7th) and Virginia (9th) from the ACC.
The Learfield Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution’s finish in up to 20 sports in Division I – 10 men’s and 10 women’s.
The final Division I winter standings will be released Thursday, April 21, which will include men’s and women’s gymnastics, along with bowling.
Please note, standings published, midseason, are unofficial. Official standings will be published upon the completion of the spring season.
