DII and DIII Learfield Directors’ Cup Standings Released

CLEVELAND (May 18, 2017) – In the first set of spring Learfield Directors’ Cup standings, Grand Valley State has scored a total of 801.50 points to lead Division II, while Washington-St. Louis leads Division III with 837.00 total points.

Grand Valley State tallied a pair of 17th place finishes in the men’s and women’s tennis championships, the only Division II sports scored thus far, extending the Lakers’ lead to 284 points. Although not scoring in men’s volleyball or women’s golf, the only Division III sports added this week, Washington-St. Louis maintains a 51.75 point lead in Division III.

In Division II, Queens (NC) jumped two spots into second place with 517.50 after scoring in the men’s tennis championship. The battle for the third spot is separated by a mere 0.50 points, with Colorado School of Mines in third place with a total of 498.50 points and Wingate in fourth with 498.00 points. Rounding out the top five is California Baptist with 487.50 points.

The SAC and GNAC lead all Division II conferences in the top-10 with two institutions each – Queens (NC) (2nd) and Wingate (4th) from the SAC and Simon Fraser (8th) and Alaska Anchorage (10th) from the GNAC.

In Division III, Williams remains in second with 785.25 total points, tallying a fourth place finish in the women’s golf tournament. Tufts is in third with 699.00 total points. In fourth is Johns Hopkins with 592.50 total points and not far behind, in fifth, is Middlebury with 584.00 total points.

The NESCAC leads all Division III conferences in the top-10 with four institutions – Williams (2nd), Tufts (3rd), Middlebury (5th) and Amherst (7th).

The Learfield Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today.

The final Division II and Division III spring standings will be released Thursday, June 1.
