Grand Valley State a peak performer in Division II
Grand Valley State (Mich.) will receive its seventh consecutive Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup for excellence in NCAA Division II athletics Thursday and begin a quest for an eighth title when the football team hosts West Texas A&M.
The Lakers fell to Northwest Missouri State in last year’s national championship but have won four titles since 2002. Ranked No. 2 in the American Football Coaches Association’s preseason poll, the football program has been the centerpiece of an athletic department that has become a model of success in Division II.
