Stanford Stays Atop Final Winter Division I Standings
CLEVELAND – Stanford remains in first place in the final winter Division I Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup Standings with 1029.75 total points. The Cardinal placed fourth in women’s gymnastics and fifth in men’s gymnastics.
Ohio State held onto its second place position with 807.75 total points. The Buckeyes placed seventh in both men’s and women’s gymnastics
Remaining in third place, with 793.00 total points, is Penn State. The Nittany Lions finished third in men’s gymnastics and 19th in women’s gymnastics.
Florida improved one spot to fourth place with 702.00 total points. The Gators earned a second place finish in women’s gymnastics.
Rounding out the top five is Michigan with 666.00 total points. The Wolverines placed 13th in women’s gymnastics and finished the winter with 394.00 points.
All 15 winter championships have been completed with the following institutions capturing titles: women’s gymnastics – Alabama; men’s gymnastics – Illinois; women’s bowling – Maryland Eastern Shore; men’s ice hockey – Boston College; men’s swimming & diving – California; men’s basketball – Kentucky; women’s basketball – Baylor (Tex.) women’s ice hockey (national collegiate) – Minnesota; fencing (national collegiate) – Ohio State; rifle (national collegiate) – Texas Christian; skiing (national collegiate) – Vermont; women’s swimming & diving – California; women’s track & field – Oregon; men’s track & field – Florida; wrestling – Penn State.
The Big Ten has five institutions in the top 10 – Ohio State (2nd), Penn State (3rd), Michigan (5th), Minnesota (6th) and Wisconsin (10th).
The Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution’s finish in up to 20 sports — 10 women’s and 10 men’s.
